DataNucleus Core

Changing TypeManager search process to use HashSet.contains reduces time by factor of 4!

Created: 19/Jul/11 05:06 PM   Updated: 01/Aug/11 10:23 AM   Resolved: 19/Jul/11 05:20 PM
Component/s: Java Types
Affects Version/s: None
Fix Version/s: 3.0.0.release

 Description  « Hide
When DataNucleus starts up it registers the supported java types. When metadata is populated/initialised we set the DFG, persistent, embedded flags using this lookup data. Currently it uses arrays and Arrays.binarySearch. This was inherited from TJDO back in 2003. Replacing it with HashSet and use of contains reduces the time taken in startup access to TypeManager to 25% of what it was before. Obviously for long-lived PMF's this isn't significant, but it certainly is for processes that have to restart PMFs regularly (e.g in the cloud)
